Sheriff Paul Penzone would like to release the following information regarding lifting the evacuation orders for the communities of Sunflower and Apache Lake.
On June 23, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. residents residing within the evacuated communities from Sunflower and Apache Lake will be allowed to return to these areas. Fire personnel have determined that conditions are favorable for the safe return of our citizens.
Restrictions will remain on State Route 87 north bound to allow one lane open. South bound will have no restrictions. State Route 88 Junction (Apache Trail at the Roosevelt Dam will open with no restrictions).
Residents of Sunflower will remain in the “Set” mode until further notice!
Sheriff Penzone would like to extend his thanks to all those affected by the evacuation for their patience and cooperation. The evacuation order was in place for the protection of not only residents but those responsible for fire containment and security. Sheriff Penzone would like to further add there were no homes lost or personnel injured.
Please use caution as you enter these areas. Fire personnel are still working, and smoke may be present.
In addition, ADOT has contracted a third party for barricade usage, therefore, the third party may not have the barricades reset by noon.
