Incident Report

A.R.S. 39-127 allows the victim, the victim's attorney, or a family member of the victim if the victim is killed or incapacitated of a Uniform Crime Reporting Part I criminal offense to obtain one copy of an incident report at no charge in which the victim is listed.

A.R.S. 8-382.20 and 13-4401.19 defines "Victim" as a person against whom the criminal offense has been committed, including a minor, or if the person is killed or incapacitated, the person's spouse, parent, child, grandparent or sibling, any other person related to the person by consanguinity or affinity to the second degree or any other lawful representative of the person, except if that person is in custody for an offense or is the accused.

If you are not listed as a victim within the report as defined above, a fee for the report will be required.

Incident reports available for immediate release are normally received by the Departmental Reports Section within one week and may include those that have been cleared by arrest (unless its release would hinder the investigation or deprive the accused of a fair trial), exception or unfounded; informational reports; or of which no person has been identified and accused of a criminal offense.

Incident reports involving aggravated factors, including, but not limited to, homicides, sex crimes, crimes against juveniles, assault, robbery, or burglary will require the approval of the case agent or his supervisor prior to its release.

Incident reports may be requested in person, by U.S. mail, or by submitting a records request online.

Traffic Accident Report

Traffic accident reports are not subject to ARS 39-127 unless, after investigation, it was determined to be intentional.

Traffic accidents resulting in no injury or non-serious injury are normally received and uploaded to BuyCrash.com within seven business days.

Prior to submitting your request online, be sure you have the following information available:

1. State (Arizona), and

2. Jurisdiction (Maricopa County Sheriff's Office), and

3. Subset of information (NOT MORE THAN ONE):

a. Report Number (best results), or

b. Last Name of Involved Party and Date of Accident, or

c. Last Name of Involved Party and Location of Accident

A valid credit/debit card or business account is required to purchase the report for download.

Fees for online reports are $5.00 per report for individuals and entities directly related to the traffic accident report.  A convenience fee may be imposed by BuyCrash.com.  For further information, please contact 866-215-2771.

DO NOT contact the Departmental Reports Section for BuyCrash.com related issues as Records personnel are not responsible for the accuracy of the information uploaded.

Visit www.BuyCrash.com to obtain a copy of your traffic accident report.

Traffic accident reports involving serious or fatal injuries or involve a criminal offense will not be available online.  Request a copy here.

Due to the complexity of the investigation, traffic accident reports resulting in a serious injury or fatality, or which are related to a criminal offense**, could take up to a year or longer to complete.

**Aside from A.R.S. 28-667.C.6, redactions may apply pursuant to A.R.S. 28-667.D and 28-667.E if a criminal complaint has been filed in conjunction with the traffic accident report or that the release of personal information would be harmful to a criminal investigation.

Event History

Event histories are available in which the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for service that resulted in no incident or traffic accident report being written as, after investigation by the responding deputy, it was determined that no criminal activity had occurred; an accident occurred on private property; or an accident did not result in any bodily injury, death or property damage as specified in A.R.S. 28-667.B.

Event histories are not criminal police reports therefore, are not subject to A.R.S. 39-127.

An event history may be provided to you at no charge if an incident report was taken but is not available for immediate release at the time of your request.

Event histories are available for up to ten (10) years from the date of the call for service.

Location History

Location histories are available in which the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office responded to a specific address within a specific date interval.  Location histories include the date of call for service, call type and description of the incident and the address that was responded to.

Location histories DO NOT delineate apartment, unit, lot or space numbers in multi-unit addresses.  If you are requesting a location history within an apartment, condominium, or business complex; mobile home park; etc., you will receive a location history which may include calls for service that are not related to your specific request.

Location histories are not criminal police reports, therefore, are not subject to A.R.S. 39-127.

Location histories are available for up to ten (10) years from the date of the call for service.
