The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is the fourth largest Sheriff's Office in the country. Our Detention staff is responsible for the care and custody of thousands of inmates that come through our jail system, every year. Our Detention Staff is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Unique Features:

  • The jail is composed of five tower housing units and ten dormitories.
  • Most of the sentenced female inmates participate in work assignments that assist with jail operations and skill building.
  • The Programs at Estrella include: Choose to Change, Mosaic, and Girl Scouts Beyond Bars.
  • Estrella Jail staff works in conjunction with Correctional Health Services, Maricopa County Human Services Department, and the MCSO Custody Support Division to provide inmate programming that aligns with the goals of the Maricopa County Smart Justice Program.
